‘Growing together in Newtown' - Lifelong Aspirations, Lifelong Prospects

Maths

At St George’s, we believe that mathematics is important and integral to everyday life. Mathematics equips pupils with a powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways.

With this in mind, we endeavour to ensure that children develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will support them in their time at secondary school and stay with them through to adult life.

We understand that mathematics is a subject of pattern and connection. We therefore aim to provide our pupils with the fluency that they need to engage in rich mathematical thought, recognising that reasoning and problem-solving sit at the heart of what it means to be a mathematician.
